Well, this morning the nominees for the 85th Academy Awards were announced, and as a result we finally have our winners for the Oscar Nominations Game I’ve been holding! I’ll soon be posting my reactions to the nominees themselves (Including my picks of the snubbiest of snubs) but for now let’s take a look at how our contestants did.
1st place with 39/49 nominations correctly guessed…
Mark Hobin over at Fast Film Reviews
2nd place with 38/49 nominations correctly guessed…
Aaron Neuwirth over at The Code is Zeek
3rd place with 37/49 nominations correctly guessed…
Fernando Raphael at Committed to Celluloid
Nick Powel at Cinematic Katzenjammer
Special Recognitions:
Aaron Neuwirth at The Code is Zeek and Alexander at Cinemaniac Reviews – Correctly guessing all nine Best Picture Nominees
Alexander at Cinemaniac Reviews & Dan Simpson at PG Cooper’s Movie Reviews – Correctly guessing all Best Actor in a Leading Role Nominees
Mark at Fast Film Reviews - Correctly guessing all Best Adapted Screenplay Nominees
With 14 different bloggers in the running, there were a lot of overlaps between the categories but more than a few entrants dared to be bold with their choices for the categories. In some cases, this boldness actually paid off. Here are some nominees that rewarded your daring:
Amour for Best Picture – 2 votes (The Code is Zeek and Cinemaniac Reviews)
David O Russel for Best Director – 2 votes (PG Cooper’s Movie Reviews & Committed to Celluloid)
Michael Haneke for Best Director – 1 vote (The Code is Zeek)
Flight for Best Original Screenplay – 1 vote (PG Cooper’s Movie Reviews)
The Pirates! Band of Misfits for Best Animated Picture – 1 vote (Cinemaniac Reviews)
In addition, two nominees did not receive a single vote:
Benh Zeitlin (Beasts of the Southern Wild) – Best Director
Jacki Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook) - Best Actress in a Supporting Role
Overall, the biggest monkey wrench in the “unexpected success” column was Amour, the belief in which helped push Aaron into second place. On the Flip Side, here are some of the top voted people/films that didn’t make the cut.
Unanimous Pick
Ben Afleck (Argo) – Best Director
Rise of the Guardians – Best Animated Picture
13/14 Votes
Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty) – Best Director
Leonardo DiCaprio (Django Unchained) – Best Actor in a Supporting Role
11/14 Votes
Marion Cotillard (Rust and Bone) – Best Actress in a Leading Role
10/14 Votes
John Hawkes (The Sessions) – Best Actor in a Leading Role
The Master – Best Original Screenplay
Congratulations to all of our winners and check back soon for my thoughts on the nominees themselves. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Academy’s choices in the comments below

I’ll take bronze. Do I get a hug or something?
I dominated that Haneke call!
Yay, Mexico ties the US for the bronze!
lol
Thanks for doing this, man! It was very fun!
Nice! You put a lot of work into this. I’m proud that I caught Flight’s screenplay nod, even if the rest of my picks weren’t great.
That’s awesome! Um I think we need to start a new game for the Oscar winners and bet money this time.
Not a Bad Idea, I think I’m going to work money into it all next year though! I’ve already lost enough on the Rorschach Awards, but I’ll be able to doll it out once I start working for Amazon next quarter
It was that Best Director category that effed me up. Well that, and my undying love for Leo! I’m still pissed!
Believe me, I’m with you! I’m going to be seeing Zero Dark Thirty this weekend but I can at least say that I’m very unhappy about Leo and Afleck for Argo getting snubbed
Had I played I would have won. Or come in last. You will never know. Mwahahahaha.
