Before that though, I’d like to shift your attention briefly to my new website header. It was sent to me as a very nice surprise from Nick Powell over at Cinematic Katzenjammer, and I for one am very happy with the results
Back to Business.
This is a two part question. First part is, What movie have you seen in any format the most times, and approximately how many times have you seen it? Mine would be Monty Python and the Holy Grail, a film that I grew up with as a kid and after am now able to turn the volume off and quote along with the entire film. Bar none my favorite movie of all time.
Second part is, What movie have you seen the most times in theaters, and how many times did you see it? For me, there is only one movie I have seen more than 3 times in theaters and that’s The Dark Knight, which I saw 4 times. Watching it the opening night in IMAX was one of the best theater-going experiences I’ve ever had, and it is currently my second favorite movie of all time after Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Third would be Return of the King, but with the length on that one it’s hard to squeeze in multiple viewings too often
Sound off in the comments below!

The Sandlot, The Princess Bride, and Forrest Gump. Three movies I MUST watch whenever I see them on TV.
totally forgot about Forrest Gump and how often it comes on TV, that would almost be my first if it weren’t for the fact that I almost always find it when it’s halfway through
All time? Jaws and Rocky III are duking it out in the thousands, somewhere. LOL
But I saw Terminator 2 in theatres 11 times!
Woot. Burton’s Batman is runner up with 9.
11 times?! I simply can’t imagine seeing a film that many times within such a short space of time!
I’ve seen The Mask too many times to count. I saw The Avengers three times in theaters, which I’ve never done before or since.
Another Avengers choice, absolutely makes sense given it’s awesomeness.
That’s what the sequel should be called, The Awesome Avengers!
Love the header man! Looks fantastic, Nick did a great job — per usual! The movie I’ve seen the absolute most is probably Evil Dead II and Back to the Future. That is basically my childhood in a nutshell right there. I don’t typically see movies more than once at the theater because I really can’t stand watching movies with obnoxious crowds.
I am so ashamed that I haven’t seen Back to the Future yet, this needs to change now
Oh wow. It will change your life, guarantee. I’m jealous that you get to experience that trilogy for the first time!! Do it now.
Probably The Avengers takes the cake for both questions now. There were a few up for the running but I’ve lost count how many times i’ve seen it.
Damn, that’s pretty impressive for such a recent release, what is it that makes it such a consistant draw for you compared to other movies?
3 things. 1- it’s just Awesome! Marvel superheroes galore. 2- Scarlett. 3- I got the chance to be in it and I try to catch myself and several friends in numerous scenes. Pause button gets a workout. haha.
Seriously?? You luck bastard, I’m guessing you were an extra in the final battle? You should tell me what minute/second mark it’s at, lol. Also, Hells yes for #2
haha. here’s one of several shots: http://thefocusedfilmographer.com/2012/12/31/2012-in-review/
Very Nice man, also LOVE Jeffrey Tambor! How’d you get to meet him?
a very cool course of events when he came to the White Sands Film Festival to receive an award. Great pleasure meeting him
Oh my gosh…where to begin on this question. I’d say I’ve seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding, The Dark Knight, Baby Mama, Role Models, The Little Rascals, Elf, and both Home Alone movies upwards of 50 times thanks to cable TV. I’m counting all the little bits and pieces together to make continuous viewings. I’ll always be sitting down to a meal, and Baby Mama is on … SCORE! Here’s to 15 minutes of Baby Mama! Or flipping the channels with nothing on, spot The Dark Knight on … OK, gotta finish it now! I’d say 21 Jump Street will be next to join this elite list.
Lol, love that Baby Mama is one of the movies you use as an example, I’m like one level below a Tina Fey Stalker. 30 Rock is my TV comfort food and her book Bossypants is the first audiobook I’ve ever bought
Bossypants made me laugh out loud just from reading it to my self.
I highly recommend the audiobook if you’ve ever got a car ride to fill the silence of, hearing her read it is priceless
I saw Fellowship of the Ring seven times in the first six days of release. I was a bit head over heels for that film.
All time, probably one of Jaws/Star Wars/Raiders.
Nice! That’s some serious dedication for FOTR, I am in love with all three films in that trilogy but was fairly young when they came out so I didn’t make it to the theater quite that often. Anything in 2013 that might come close to breaking that record for you?
All time, I have no clue… possibly The Wizard of Oz, since I’ve been watching it my entire life and always watch it at least a few times a year. In theaters, my most-watched is Midnight in Paris, with four visits. I’m not usually the type to see something more than once in the theater, but I really couldn’t wait to see that one again, and my theater as $4.25 matinees!
I loved that one, sadly it is the only Woody Allen Movie I’ve seen so far but if it’s any indication of his style I think I need to change that. ahhh, those 4.25 matinee days, how we miss them
Hope you get to see more of his work! Not all of it has quite the same “magical” quality as Midnight in Paris but I enjoy many of his films. I would recommend Love and Death, Sleeper and Manhattan Murder Mystery if I had to pick just a few.
Never even heard of those, up on the list they go! Thanks for the recommendation
Goodfellas for me. I have NEVER seen any film more than once in a cinema……..strangely enough
Lol, yet another one I need to see like right now. Actually… Let’s make that happen. I’m downloading it right now, time to join yet another party!
Films I’ve seen the most times: The Big Lebowski and Point Break I believe.
In the cinema: Jurassic Park, Ghostbusters 2 and Trainspotting twice a piece.
lol, I feel like such a baby w/ everyone’s picks for seeing in theaters, I was a toddler when most of those came out. Still need to see point break, but hells yeah for the big lebowski!
The list I have are The Dark Knight is so surreal with fantastic performances! Kingdom of Heaven dialogue and direction is outstanding! 500 Days of Summer heartbreaking and heart warming! Casino Royale boom goes the Bond it was like Daniel made it his own and rotated it 360 while kicking everyone’s ass! Robin Williams starrer Patch Adams and What Dreams May Come real feel good films!
Love all of those, I’m glad I’m not the only other person who appreciates Robin Williams’ dramatic roles. Casino Royale is also my favorite bond movie
I’ve never seen a film at the cinema more than twice, and there are various films that applies to. As for all time, I reckon probably Star Wars and Wayne’s World. I’ve seen those so many times I’ve lost count.
Party Time! Excellent… choices sir
Oh, this is a sad question because I can’t answer the second part… I’ve seen a play twice but that hardly sounds a lot with my mom seeing one play for 10 times!! My most watched movie, to be honest, Star Trek and about 10 to 15 times. It’s my go to movie when I want to watch something but can’t decide – always cheers me up!
Star Trek 2009 or the original?
2009.
I think I saw Casino, Snatch and Black Swan about 12-15 times. They are some of my favorites and I never get tired with them. When it comes to theatrical viewing I saw The Dark Knight Rises and Fellowship of the Ring 3 times
Solid films all around, I just discovered Snatch on Netflix the other day and loved it!
My all time most seen has to be Dazed and Confused, which I watched 3-5 times a week through the years 1994 to 1998, then probably bi-weekly from late 98 until 2000, and many more times since. Terminator, Terminator 2, Ace Ventura Pet Detective and The Lion King probably round out the top 5 all time views.
Theatres, I saw Fight Club 4 times during it’s original theatrical run, and at least 5 times as a midnight movie… so that’s at least 9. Next highest is a tie between Braveheart and The Lion King, at 5 times during their original runs, and a midnight movie each.
I actually don’t go to the cinema seeing the same movies that often, the most time I’ve done that is twice. I do watch some movies on DVD/Blu-ray over and over, I think one of them I’ve watched close to a dozen times is Sense & Sensibility.
Is that the one with Hugh Grant?
That’s the one. But he’s not my fave actor in that film, that’d be Alan Rickman
No idea, I assume some of the obvious ones jurassic park
Akira, I watched it like 4 million times in High School. lol
My god, I’m so sad that I haven’t seen this many of peoples’ most viewed movies, I need more free time!
You must!! I would put it in the middle of the list though.:p
